Colors are the smiles of nature - Leigh Hunt

Research suggests that highly sensitive people can face more obstacles than others, especially during stressful periods. However, their (our) trait makes it possible for us to feel immense happiness too. The key to happiness is peaceful surroundings, and isn't a creative environment peaceful too?

It can be tricky to be highly sensitive. Our nervous system can urge us to withdraw from enjoyable activities. Art can be one of the pleasant and joyous stimuli to a highly sensitive person's nervous system. Highly sensitive people can experience deep joy while indulging in art.

[Sand, Ilse. Highly Sensitive People in an Insensitive World: How to Create a Happy Life]

In my highly sensitive journey, I've always strived to be happy. However, I didn't know how to explore happiness amidst my daily challenges. My challenges involved overwhelm, sensitivity to various stimuli, and creative lulls.

I'd like to believe that most highly sensitive and creative people wish to be happy but need a little help - which is where I come in!

If you wish to explore abstract art for your sensitivity and don't know where to begin, try the below-mentioned activity.

As a reflective activity, ask your heart the following questions to discover your relation with art, especially abstract art. What makes you happy? What makes you laugh?

Please don't think, instead, I request you to listen to your heart.

Fill in the blanks, dear highly sensitive soul:

I am happy when I use __________ color.

(For example, I am happy when I use dark blue color.)

I feel like dancing when I paint a __________ freely.

(For example, I feel like dancing when I paint a big, red splotch freely.)

I feel like laughing when I paint a __________ without any inhibitions.

(For example, I feel like laughing when I paint stick figures with irregular bodies without any inhibitions.)

I must add, that despite painting for three years, I am still exploring happiness using abstract art. For instance, I am doing an online course requiring a serious mindset. Today, after finishing a video lecture, I felt stimulated. I surely did some heavy lifting with my nervous system.

Something had to change!

Quickly, I put on a pop song and took out my paints. Luckily, I had to paint for the blog post today. I asked myself, what can I paint that would lift my readers and my spirits?

The image in this post came out of my creative radar.

It was a joy-filled and refreshing experience.

It is true. Our paints want to make us smile. The question is, do we choose art or abstract art to be happy?

-3, 2, 1, Cheers,

Pranita
