Why does vulnerability trump strength?
Emotional intensity and vulnerability can be either applauded or criticized. I find that vulnerability opens doors to authenticity and a healthier living. I've felt that my emotional intensity has been appreciated in my later years of my life. I associate that with my improved communication skills and acceptance of my emotions.
Often, we choose to be buff and strong in difficult situations. I've learned that such a mindset can be harmful and lead to internal conflicts.
When I'm vulnerable, I'm honest.
When I'm strong (buff-like), I feel like I am entering a battle.
Why enter a battle when problems can be resolved with honesty?
What does this abstract artwork say about vulnerability?
I was guided by my vulnerable emotions to paint the abstract artwork in this post. The strokes, colors, and shapes represent my repressed emotions surrounding vulnerability. My artwork inspires and evokes vulnerability in me.
If this artwork could speak, it would encourage readers to think about what vulnerability means to them.
As highly sensitive people, we face challenges. For example, highly sensitive people cannot share all their individualistic experiences with their loved ones. In such times, I find abstract art to be a true friend.
Canvas sheets and art materials encourage us to be ourselves. They help us pick vulnerability over strength.
I consider those to be the perfect qualities of a supportive friend.
Don't you too?
Are you new to the term high sensitivity?
In my understanding, high sensitivity is a genetic trait that affects roughly 20% of the human population and over 100 other species. It is a trait that enables humans to be more sensitive, alert, and responsive towards their environment and various stimuli.
Highly sensitive people process information more elaborately and require more "pause to check" time before action steps.
Research associates high sensitivity with an evolutionary change to promote survival. Higher sensitivity improves awareness of opportunities and threats. However, studies suggest the benefits outweigh the challenges of being highly sensitive.
I attest to the benefits, as my high sensitivity has supported me in my lows and highs. More importantly, it has taught me to embrace my creativity, sensitivity, and vulnerability.
I welcome you to join me in learning about your high sensitivity, creativity, and vulnerability.
Please remember, the best explorations can lead to the best discoveries :).
