Color healing has been practiced since ancient Egypt. In fact, Hermes Trismegistus, the god of Thoth, founded color healing. Research suggests that the ancient Egyptians and Greeks utilized colored minerals and built colorful treatment centers.
According to medical research, color impacts human health. For example, red is a stimulant for blood, blue and white act as blood-cooling agents, yellow decreases inflammation, and pink has a soothing effect. Colors such as blue and pink are studied to decrease stress levels too.
As a highly sensitive person, I believe that I can easily be influenced by the effect of colors. I've found the effects of blue, dark blue, and pink to be extremely soothing for my nervous system. In fact, I feel a sense of relief after painting with dark blue color. Hence, I theorize that colors could have an effect on highly sensitive people. I assume different colors could affect different highly sensitive people in individualistic ways.
It is my personal opinion that highly sensitive people process colors deeply, as their nervous system processes information deeply. Although I haven't found research surrounding the effect of colors on highly sensitive people, I do believe that we could benefit from using soothing colors such as pink and blue to manage our stress levels.
This morning, I woke up feeling overwhelmed by some challenges on the business front. I thought of creating an artwork for this blog post and indulged in making colorful abstract artwork. I spent ten minutes on the artwork and by the end of it, I could hear myself thinking, 'I want to continue painting. I feel so much lighter’.
I could sense my stress levels decreasing and a feeling of happiness emerging.
As highly sensitive people, we tend to process more information deeply and that can create stressful situations. So, it is important to keep reminding ourselves to spend at least ten minutes a day painting with different colors, as they can be a quick fix for our stress levels.
If you have high sensitivity levels, I welcome you to recognize abstract art and high sensitivity as gifts. I have been consciously experiencing the beauty of both for the past three years. On the one hand, abstract art can bring happiness to our lives, and on the other, high sensitivity levels can come with high creativity levels — something that is required for sensitive souls who are troubled by non-creative stimuli.Â
So, come, join me, my friend! Let's learn about abstract art and high sensitivity together.
What are you waiting for?
