A micro story about embracing creativity, originality, and high sensitivity

It was late at night when the tenth-graders, Roy, Akbar, and Drake were chatting about life. Curiously, Roy asked the other two to share their career plans.

'I want to play the character of a wizard draped in a neon poncho,' said Akbar.

'I want to wear a space suit with a neon pink helmet and travel in space,' expressed Drake.

'I want to be an expressive dancer and own a neon orange skirt,' replied Roy.

The three friends became excited learning about each other's goals.

'Is it odd that we don't think about IVY league schools like the rest of our friends?' asked Akbar.

'No, it is odd to not stick to our originality and creativity,' replied Roy.

'I wonder if we are highly sensitive because we think differently?' asked Akbar nervously.

'No, we think creatively and originally because we are highly sensitive. It’s awesome, no?' replied Roy.

‘You’ve got a point,' replied Akbar and Roy, together.

The moral of the story: Your creativity, originality, and high sensitivity are your superpowers. Please embrace them!

Research speaks: What is the correlation between high sensitivity, creativity, and originality?

Research suggests that creativity can open highly sensitive people to emotional sensitivity, especially to one's own emotions.

This could be especially true for artists. There have been studies that show a correlation between the high sensitivity trait and emotional intensity evoked by art. Highly sensitive people are researched to be more original and creative due to their trait, specifically because of their openness in their personalities and emotional sensitivity towards art.

At first, the skill of emotionally connecting with art might seem unnecessary. However, in my opinion, such a skill can help highly sensitive people expand their non-linear thinking and connect to their creative radar.

When one connects to their creative radar, they might surprise themselves with answers to mind-boggling questions.

Would you like a quick tip to connect to your creative radar?

To be more creative and original, I suggest highly sensitive people take more walks.

This is because one can brainstorm about ideas during a walk. For example, this morning, I went for a walk and brainstormed about making an artwork for this blog post.

The thoughts that came to my mind were about using white blotches of paint, texture white paint, and black colored paper. It might feel insignificant but these pointers helped me create the artwork in this blog post.

To quote Jason Mraz's song 'if you believe, anything can happen'.

So, believe in yourself, highly sensitive soul.

Pranita
