Here's the good news: Yes! Abstract art can quieten the thoughts of a highly sensitive person's nervous system.
However, in my experience, it takes consistent practice to notice a drastic change in one's nervous health. When I first began working with abstract art, I noticed that I would feel more relaxed within an hour of painting. However, it took some time until I realized that it had a significant impact on my nervous system.
It is rare for someone to have a 360-degree change in their mood or thought chain. However, I don't think a drastic change should be the aim of working with abstract art, especially if the main goal is to see a change in one's thoughts.
Humbly, I would advise highly sensitive people to aim to create a creative mental environment. It is easier for creative souls to create a healthier mental environment with abstract art. I say this because one feels more relaxed in a creative mental environment.
How can one begin to create a creative mental environment?
I advise highly sensitive people to use paints that catch their attention as soon as they open a paint box. Also, instead of using fresh sheets/canvas, I advise sensitive souls to pick the unused sides of used paper lying around in physical environments (i.e., one's living room, bedrooms, office spaces, etc.). This ensures least amount of pressure on a highly sensitive person who is trying to get out of an overwhelmed state.
Again, abstract art is a reflection of one's entire being. Hence, it is important to be nonjudgmental about the way one's art looks; rather, it is important to notice if the art has caused relaxion.
So, my friends, let's focus on creating a creative mental environment for our sensitive nervous systems. I can attest that it makes one feel less overwhelmed over time. More importantly, it is a start to improving our nervous health.
Here's an interesting fact: The painting in this post represents a shift that I am going through in my life. Earlier this year, the pace of my life was not as fast as I wanted it to be. Now, it is changing. Now, I feel like a snail running a marathon :D.
The changes that make us feel our best are the best.
However, change is also overwhelming for a highly sensitive person.
To support my overwhelmed and happy nervous system, I paint.
It doesn't matter if you're having overwhelmed thoughts because of a happy change or a dull one. Regardless , I ask you to say 'I love you' to your nervous system with abstract art, Expressive Sensitive, and your effort to change your mental environment.
Also, in case you need a reminder, dear reader, I love you.
