As we all know, listening is an important skill. It makes one feel heard and understood.
As an empath, I tend to attract chronic talkers that can drain me and make me feel unheard or overwhelmed. Hence, I am always seeking people who truly value the skill of listening. I consider myself to be a good listener, and I often seek for people who can be listeners for me too.
I don't have such expectations from art. I know that art listens to me.
My canvas and paints always listen. Often, they support me to listen to myself.
A few days ago, I had a significant HSP (highly sensitive person) experience. I knew that I could not share it with everyone. I needed a human being who could fully understand and relate to me. I wasn't able to narrow down to the person who could listen and understand my experience.
More importantly, I had to process the feelings and thoughts that were weighing me down.
So, I picked up my canvas and paints. I let my art be my listener.

(P.S - This is what came up for me, and I love it!)
My experience was intimate, insightful, and beautiful in its way.
I know that art may or may not be able to replace a human touch.
However, it can provide a band-aid to one's wounds.
Isn't that worth something?
