MY STORY

This is an abstract artwork

There was a point in my life when I thought I was only logically aligned. Now, I find logic through my creativity.

It all started when I began writing in my small and solid diary about all the problems I had as a 12-year-old. There was a polite voice in my mind that would tell me, 'you need to write. You are having an emotional experience in your gut. It is trying to tell you something.' It took me some time to listen to that voice and follow through with its advice.

And, I got there.

When I did, I discovered a part of me that was submerged deep down within me. A world of its own came out through fiction stories. It was beautiful! I utilized my dentistry degree (India), science communication education (UK), and combined it with my love for writing. I published my first science communication book in 2020. It is a science book with fiction stories and scientific research facts, weaved together, for the non-academic audience to understand scientific research engagingly and creatively.

I kept writing until there came a point when I wasn't able to hear that soft, friendly voice once again.

I became receptive to fears and doubts within and outside of me. Some were mine and some were not. The joy and love I found in writing stories ceased for some time. Soon, I began walking on a deeply-rooted spiritual path. There was more silence, reflection, education, and healing than I had ever experienced in my life. For some time, writing for others took a backseat.

Then, came art.

It was like a breath of fresh air that swooped me off my feet. I discovered my deep love for abstract art while working with acrylic paints. I chose this medium because it felt like acrylics matched perfectly with my creative expression form. Acrylics are easy to work with, and they dry quickly.

At first, there were a few colorful lines that would display my emotions and thoughts. Then, came more colors, paper sizes, art material, and artistic people who began supporting my artistic journey.

I began picking up the brush each day, even when fear and doubt were trying to distract me. What started as a three-hour activity each day, soon, became a daily ritual. It has been close to two years since I first picked up the brush to create abstract art. Today, I own over 250 pieces of art, 80 percent of which are my original creations. The rest are the ones that I learned and created in art class. Yes, I began learning art as soon as I realized that art was more than just a hobby. It was the same polite, friendly voice trying to guide me through my art.

Yes! I found that voice again.

Hi, my name is Dr. Pranita Rao. I am a former dentist, published science communication author, trained artist, and a highly sensitive person (HSP). I am here to support other highly sensitive people in tapping into their innate creative abilities using abstract art on paper/canvas. I aim to educate HSPs about the impact of abstract art and encourage them to discover their innate and unique creative gift, so that they can find calm, closure, creativity, and authenticity in their lives.

I am not an art teacher. I teach about the impact of abstract art in the lives of highly sensitive people. I teach via my art blog that has my original abstract artwork and educational content that support empaths and highly sensitive people understand their trait, creative, and intuitive abilities. The aim of teaching in this manner is for more and more highly sensitive people to express themselves through their own artistic style, while learning about their highly sensitive lives.

In doing so, I wish and intend to support myself by utilizing my innate creative and intuitive gifts to nurture the artist, teacher, and HSP in me.

You might ask, 'but Pranita, why didn't you use any other art form? Why is abstract art so special to you?' My answer to that is simple, abstract art comes from my heart and soul. In my experience, abstract art can positively affect one's internal and external environment. More importantly, it leads to relaxation and self-expression, two important challenges faced by highly sensitive individuals. Also, it is so much fun to dip your hands into colors and create everything that is indefinite.

I mention more about my experiences as an artist and HSP in my art blog. All the artwork in my blog comes from my heart. In my blog, I work with my writing and art gifts to produce content that speaks to highly sensitive people and me. Please know, my blog is the most important part of my business. I do own a virtual shop, and I love it. However, my blog is my home. It's where the education, inspiration, and creation resides.

Now, I can consider that you know me and the how, why, and what of my journey.

Remember, creativity lies inside and not outside. It means that you are unique. Do not let fear and doubts get to you :).

Fun fact - The 'Dr' in front of my name felt slightly unfamiliar to me after I finished my dentistry.
Now, the term HSP as a title next to my name and designations makes me feel like a complete individual (it fully resonates with me). Most importantly, I smile when I use this term, especially for myself.

I'd like to summarize my story by sharing that the problem I am trying to solve is majorly related to a lack of expression and relaxation in highly sensitive people. My solution to these problems is utilizing abstract art and one's intuition. It might sound simple and unique. However, I can assure you that the solutions I am offering won't disappoint you or make you feel unheard.

Life forms may have the ability to not truly listen to highly sensitive people, but in my experience, abstract art and one's intuition can't do that to highly sensitive souls.

In my art blog, I've spoken about my challenges with device usage, expression and expression in others, creative roadblocks, stimulation, emotional and energetic overwhelm, and stigma related to being highly sensitive, intuitive, and unique.

I can assure you that if you feel heard by now, you must have a true inclination towards creativity, abstract art, honest human stories, and being informed about highly sensitive people like me.

So, I welcome you to Expressive Sensitive.
